Volkswagen of America, Inc., has announced that the 2019 Jetta has been named a finalist for the 2019 Green Car of the Year® award by Green Car Journal. This prestigious award honors the vehicle that Green Car Journal deems to “raise the bar in environmental performance while remaining within reach of most consumers.” The Jetta was praised for improved design, interior space, technology, and new 1.4-liter engine.
“Finalists for the 2019 Green Car of the Year® illustrate that ‘green’ comes in many forms,” said Ron Cogan, Editor and Publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. “Built on VW’s MQB platform, the seventh-generation Jetta offers a bolder design, greater interior space, lots of tech, and an EPA-estimated 40 highway mpg fuel efficiency rating, a milestone often achieved by hybrid powertrains, but in this case delivered by the Jetta’s 1.4-liter TSI® gasoline engine.” While the 2019 Jetta is more technologically advanced than ever, retaining its fun-to-drive character and of course, fuel economy was of critical importance.
“We’re so pleased to be selected as a finalist for the Green Car of the Year award,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and After Sales for Volkswagen of America, Inc. “This further validates the Jetta as an exceptionally competitive offering in the compact sedan segment, where efficiency is top of mind.”
