The 2018 Golf SportWagen has been named Best Wagon in the 2019 AutoWeb Buyer’s Choice Awards. The awards represent the most in-demand vehicle in each category, based on price quote requests submitted on AutoWeb’s network of automotive websites. The 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen is the only German-engineered mass-market wagon on sale in the U.S. and boasts a potent blend of performance and practicality.
“We are very proud of this win for Golf SportWagen,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and After Sales for Volkswagen of America, Inc. “The SportWagen offers a unique blend of style, spaciousness and Volkswagen’s hallmark fun-to-drive nature, and awards like this serve as proof point that we are hitting the mark with buyers.”
“The AutoWeb Buyer’s Choice Awards represent the most in-demand vehicles among millions of consumers,” said Jared Rowe, president and CEO of AutoWeb. “This year’s winning manufacturers are clearly delivering products that best meet the needs of today’s car buyers. More than ever, consumers expect the best in buying, driving, and ownership experiences. Congratulations to all the winners for developing vehicles that match, and often exceed, these expectations.”
The 2018 Golf SportWagen comes standard with a 1.8-liter, 170hp engine, is available in three trim levels—S, SE, and SEL—and offers available 4Motion® all-wheel drive. MSRP starts at $21,685. Click here to see our new Golf SportWagens in stock at Herman Cook VW!

The San Diego Air Cooled VW Group helped to make children’s holidays a bit brighter on Saturday with their annual Vintage VW Christmas Cruise toy drive at Herman Cook.
The Air Cooled Group is a San Diego-based Volkswagen Club that loves to share their passion for cruising and customizing their Classic Air Cooled VW’s. Over 200 enthusiasts couldn’t have been more excited to share their passion at this event!
Enthusiasts of all ages helped participate in the Toys for Tots donation box pickup at Herman Cook.
There was a magical holiday cheer in the air filled with some FESTIVE outfits!
All were classic vehicles, but each one unique, and many of them festively decorated in Christmas cheer.
Around 65 classic and uniquely decorated VW’s piled into the dealership to take part in the event. This was our biggest turnout yet!
Within each vehicle, there were many opportunities to see the classic VW culture that we all know and love.
Members of the San Diego Air Cooled VW Group reminisced about the Vintage VW’s they’ve restored and are proud to have out on the road today.
The classics were a sight to behold as many of them were extremely decorative and customized vehicles.
The group leader Lee Hedges put his heart and soul into organizing the event, capturing a collective VW nostalgia for all those involved.
Over 400 toys collected from the Herman Cook VW Toy Drive and The San Diego Air Cooled VW Group were piled into the van to be delivered to Toys for Tots for donation.
Once all the VW’s were lined up, they exited past the Herman Cook VW showroom in a stylish procession one by one.
The club drove down the coast in their vintage V-dubs starting at Herman Cook Volkswagen and cruised through Del Mar, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Fiesta Island, Coronado, and Imperial Beach.
There were many beautiful stops along the way.
Alas, they ended their journey at the Toys for Tots Marine Corps Reserve Center near Miramar and delivered the toys for donation for the children.
The Toys for Tots drive was a huge success thanks to the generosity of San Diego Air Cooled VW, Herman Cook VW customers and employees, and the support of the local community. If you would like to participate in the next annual Vintage VW Cruise, contact the dealership at (760) 753-6256 for more details. Click here to watch the video!

Volkswagen of America, Inc., has announced that the 2019 Jetta has been named a finalist for the 2019 Green Car of the Year® award by Green Car Journal. This prestigious award honors the vehicle that Green Car Journal deems to “raise the bar in environmental performance while remaining within reach of most consumers.” The Jetta was praised for improved design, interior space, technology, and new 1.4-liter engine.
“Finalists for the 2019 Green Car of the Year® illustrate that ‘green’ comes in many forms,” said Ron Cogan, Editor and Publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. “Built on VW’s MQB platform, the seventh-generation Jetta offers a bolder design, greater interior space, lots of tech, and an EPA-estimated 40 highway mpg fuel efficiency rating, a milestone often achieved by hybrid powertrains, but in this case delivered by the Jetta’s 1.4-liter TSI® gasoline engine.” While the 2019 Jetta is more technologically advanced than ever, retaining its fun-to-drive character and of course, fuel economy was of critical importance.
“We’re so pleased to be selected as a finalist for the Green Car of the Year award,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and After Sales for Volkswagen of America, Inc. “This further validates the Jetta as an exceptionally competitive offering in the compact sedan segment, where efficiency is top of mind.”
